8 Warning Signs Your Glad Hand Seals Need Replacement
Do not wait for a roadside breakdown. Watch for these signs that your glad hand seals are failing.
- Visible cracking, dry rot, or chunks missing from the seal
- Flat spots or permanent deformation where the two surfaces meet
- Audible hissing when the brakes are applied
- Slow pressure build on the trailer gauge
- Moisture, oil, or debris coming out of the glad hand
- Difficulty getting a solid, positive connection
- Glad hand handles feel loose or sloppy
- Rubber particles breaking off during connection
If you see two or more of these signs, replace the seals before your next trip. It is cheap insurance for your air brake system.
